With "hardness" Rosa von Praunheim tells the true and harrowing life story of Andreas Marquardt.

As a boy he was sexually abused by his mother, later Marquardt was brutal pimp and sat long in prison. Meanwhile, he has to face his former life back and advocates for abused children.

"Hardness" is partly a documentary in which Marquardt talks about his career. At the same time director of Praunheim can reenact many sequences: Katy carts Bauer (TV series "Behind Bars - The women's prison") is the mother, Hanno Koffler ("Free Fall") traumatized by the abuse Marquardt.
